It's been a long time since I had touch the blog.

Interim is drawing near and I haven't even started on animatics. But at least the storyboard is approved. Yi Chuin had also commented on it. Seems like some angles that I had taken out are rather important too. I think I might add them in if I had time before the end of submission.

Had been doing moodboard for this week and it's killing me. Guess I'm getting fingers cramp soon. I had problems with drawing straight neat lines in Photoshop. Had been solving it by creating lines using the line tool, then keep adjusting it to match the drawing. It's time consuming and I take about one and a half days to complete one scene's background. I am indeed worried about the time I have left. Will I even be able to complete everything in time. I wanted to do a thriller too. T.T

For character, I had actually took photos of my sister so I can correct my angles. It does help. But one character's frame takes about thity minutes or more. I think I will need to rush things now. I haven't do grantt chart too. I wonder how should I shecdule everything. Maybe one week finish up 2 scenes as I had a total of 40 plus of it. Will be doing animatic tomorrow. Hope I can finish it before next week. Still need to find a suitable audio to match the animation.

3rd Consultation

Had been trying to draw out the design for the characters. It was tough to get the right features for the girl. I am also challenging myself with the design of the ship. It was even harder and I had been researching for images on ship and also to study the angles. I had went to the library to search for books on ship but could not find any. I might try the school library one day. I tried modelling the ship in 3D Maya but failed. So, another way was to use clay to model it out. I had gotten the clay already, will be modelling my characters out in clay too.

As for the problem that Mr Ronald had asked during the last consultation, I thought that I can show it with an empty cage. Thanks to Shermin who had help to give me this idea. I would put this scene for the end credit so people will know that the rabbit was no longer with the girl.

Did my Student Learning Contract already, will be making my schedule tomorrow.
Had consulted Mr Ronald and it seems like I had my character style confirmed. I also let Mr Ronald see the design of the ship already.

Consultation 2

Before the consultation with Mr Ronald, I actually went to have a chat with Shermin to tell her about my story. She was very supportive and gave me feedback. She commented that it was a little too long. But to me, I find that every part of the story are important and I would not wish to take any scene away.

After talking to Shermin, I got my confidence back and headed back up to class, ready for consultation. Still feeling a little nervous and uncertain, I took my rough storyboard and presented it to Mr Ronald. With the help of storyboard, I was able to tell him the story in full details and I think Mr Ronald also felt that it was clearer to understand. However, there was a problem. At the end of the story, I told him that the rabbit in the dream was actually dead. But to my audience, they may not know about it. Therefore, I have ask myself how to show the fact that the rabbit was already dead. Guess I will be asking another friend of mine for opinion.

Meanwhile, I had told Honey and Laurie about my problem. Both of them gave me some ideas. For instance, maybe a procession that the rabbit owns that had became very old and rusty. A chain watch perhaps, with the rabbit's name being engraved on it. But I would not be telling the audience what the rabbit's name will be. Or maybe I should. But I think I will be using very minimal dialogue in my animation. I would want the audience to feel the emotion through the actions and expression of my characters.

First Consultation

I was quite nervous about telling my story to Mr Ronald as I find it hard to summarize the story for him. I actually had the story in full detailed and was able to picture some of the scenes out in my mind. But I guess I was really bad at storying telling and writing.

After the consultation, it was a big disappointment to me when Ronald commented that the story was vauge. I think it was because I did not tell him the whole storyline and what will be happening in the middle of the story itself. Therefore, I asked if I should type the story out first. Mr Ronald said that I should so it will be clearer for me. Somehow, I was quite motivated to finish writing out the story and had completed it by midnight.

I even shared my story to a few friends of mine and try to get some feedbacks from them. When I told them the story in detail, they said that they were able to visualize the story in their mind. Some of the comment I have gotten was that the story is quite touching. I just hope that the lecturer will approve the story as I really want to do show it in the form of animation.

Once I had written out the story, I decided to draw out the thumbnails. It was very rough and sketchy, but somehow I was able to visualize the scene better.

Interim 2

A month had past and everyone had finally gotten their animatics done. What's left for me is to find voice talent for the ring master, improve the sound effects for the appluase and also to add in background for most of the scenes so the images don't look flat. I was glad that the animatic was quite a sucess in term of pacing. At first, I think that some scenes were too fast and people might not be able to digest it well enough. So, I held some frames longer and it seems much better now. Thanks to the feedback from Vivien.

It wasn't easy finding sound effects. I stayed up till 4am just listening to suitable SFX for my animation. Now, I think my audio is like 50-60% done. I should work on the title and backgroud now.

Gonna start on the production soon.

CD profile sheets

This are the profile sheets for the dwarf, lady performer, ring master and the Hippo.





Mr Alan commented that my Hippo's mouth should open wider so it's believable that it was able to swallow the Dwarf down. I had took the beard off the dwarf so he won't look like a Santa's elf. I hope he don't look like a child without his beard. To prevent this, I had deepen his winkles around his eyes and the mouth.
I haven't refine my storyboard yet and presentation is on Thursday. Oh No!
